SEJDIĆ ACQUITTED OF CRIMES AGAINST SEBRS IN RUDO AND GORAŽDE

SARAJEVO, July 16 /SRNA/ - The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina acquitted the former commander of the 1st Višegrad Brigade of the so-called Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ahmet Sejdić, of inhumane treatment of civilians and prisoners of war of Serb national background in Rudo and Goražde.

Sejdić was acquitted of 11 counts of inhuman treatment of civilians of Serb ethnic background, including prisoners of war and members of the Republika Srpska Army in the period between July 1992 and February 1993, reports Birn.

"The evidence presented were not sufficient enough to find the accused guilty," said Presiding Judge Mira Smajlović.

The Sejdić trial began in May 2016.

After three years of trial, in closing arguments put forward in June this year, the Prosecutor's Office of BiH sought the accused to be convicted, while the defence sought the acquittal of the accused.

The appeal against this judgment is possible. /end/vos
