BELGRADE, FEBRUARY 28 /SRNA/ - Serb BiH Presidency member Milorad Dodik said this evening in Belgrade that Republika Srpska was proof of freedom and desire of the Serbian people to live in peace and that this was why it has been under constant attacks.

At a reception organized on the occasion of January 9, Republika Srpska Day, and the 28th anniversary of the adoption of the first Republika Srpska Constitution, Dodik has said that Srpska managed to preserve its values, which some have tried to seize and usurp since the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement.

“Present international administrators in BiH are trying to form only one nation. We have the BiH Constitutional Court in BiH, an occupational court for Serbs, which rules in keeping with its own rules and is trying to subsume Republika Srpska under its own rules where there are no Serbs. This is why our struggle is full of pride,” Dodik said.

Dodik has stressed that Republika Srpska does not want a conflict, but only wants its constitutional position within BiH.

While addressing those gathered in the Belgrade City Assembly, at a ceremony organized by the Republika Srpska Representative Office in Serbia, Dodik thanked everyone for coming to mark the Republika Srpska Day and the 28th anniversary of the first Republika Srpska Constitution.

He has stressed that Serbs understood back then that if they do not defend their territory and do not create their state, they will lose freedom.

“It was the moment when we had not to surrender to those who were taking us to the killing grounds, to surrender our fate to those who are against us. That which is happening today in connection with efforts to undermine the Dayton Peace Agreement is a confirmation of it,” Dodik said.

He has stressed that this is why it is important to Serbs in BiH that Serbia is strong.

“This is why we are coming here to build a future together. This is why I am grateful to Serbia for understanding and because it wants to hear us. Today, more than ever, we must gather around Serbia and take care of our interests, gather around Republika Srpska and its leadership, around our rights,” Dodik said.

He has stressed that Serbs are the only people in the Balkans who have a potentially strong state.

“We will achieve this. This is the century of our integration in every sense of the word. Long live Republika Srpska, Serbia and the Serbian people, wherever they might live,” Dodik said.

This is the 6th reception organized in Belgrade by the Republika Srpska Representative Office in Serbia on the occasion of January 9 - Republika Srpska Day, and the 28th anniversary of the proclamation of the first Republika Srpska Constitution.

The reception is being attended by Serb BiH Presidency member Milorad Dodik, Republika Srpska President Željka Cvijanović, Defense Minister Aleksandar Vulin in the capacity of an envoy of the Serbian president, Speaker of the Serbian Parliament Maja Gojković, Speaker of the Republika Srpska National Assembly Nedeljko Čubrilović and ministers in the Serbian and Republika Srpska Governments.

The reception in the Belgrade City Assembly is also being attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps, renowned figures from the world of culture, arts, science, education, business and sports from Serbia and Srpska and a great number of other guests.
