SREMSKA RAČA, AUGUST 4 /SRNA/ - His Holiness Patriarch Irinej of Serbia said Tuesday evening in Sremska Rača that being an Orthodox Serb was only guilt of the Serbs who were killed in Croatia.

"We gathered today to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the suffering of Serbs during the aggression carried put by the Croatian army. We gathered to mark a sad and tragic event experienced by our innocent people," said Patriarch Irinej after serving memorial service for the victims on the bridge in Sremska Rača, together with the Serbian Orthodox Church clergy.

The event was attended by Serb member of the BiH Presidency Milorad Dodij, presidents of Reoublika Srpska and Serbia, Željka Cvijanović and Aleksandar Vučić, and Prime Minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabić.

Patriarch Irinej points out that the Serb people have experienced such tragic event, not from someone far away, but from the people who speak almost the same language, with nearly the same religion, with whom they lived and shared good and evil for centuries.

"Being an Orthodox Serb was the only guilt of the Serb people who lived in Croatia," the patriarch said.

According to him, the Serb people paid it through thousands and thousands of innocent victims.

"That price for one's name and religion has been paid with one's life since 1941. Unfortunately, it is still being paid today," the Serbian patriarch emphasized.

Patriarch Irinej emphasized that operation Storm was the most tragic event for the Serbian people in history.

His Holiness wished the evil the Serbian people experienced would never happen again - neither here, nor anywhere in the world. /end/vos
