SARAJEVO, FEBRUARY 19 /SRNA/ - Russia is not a threat to anyone nor does it impose its own will to anyone, but is acting as an equal and honest partner, Russian Ambassador to BiH Petr Ivantsov said this evening in Sarajevo.

At a reception on the occasion of February 23 - the Day of Defenders of the Homeland, which was also attended by Republika Srpska President Željka Cvijanović and Serb BiH Presidency member Milorad Dodik, Ivantsov has said that the holiday is in memory of those who throughout history bravely defended and still defend Russian borders from outside threats.

“Unfortunately, there are still confrontations in the world. We are still witnesses to attempts to use methods of military and economic pressure, actions in the spirit of archaic logic of keeping lines of divisions and geopolitical games,” Ivantsov said.

He has warned of undermining the framework of international security which has been built for decades after the liquidation of the agreement on restricting air defense system, an agreement on the elimination of medium-range and small-range missiles disappeared, and Russia’s proposal to put a moratorium on the production and deployment of these missiles was rejected.

“In this context, Russia is making efforts to reduce international tensions, secure strategic stability, establish a fair world order, and is committed to resolving numerous regional conflicts by diplomatic means,” Ivantsov said.

He has said that Russia this year celebrates the 75th anniversary of victory in WWII, noting that the tradition of anti-fascism is being nurtured in BiH just like in Russia.

Military attaché of Russia in BiH Ilya Skrebnev has said that a modern generation of Russian defenders continues the tradition of their forefathers with honor and dignity.

“The Russian Army is taking the leading position in the world when it comes to the quality of weapons, combat preparedness and ability. We will continue strengthening our military potential which is intended exclusively for defense,” Skrebnev said.

According to him, the strengthening of stability and security in the world is one of the main priorities of Russia, noting that the country is open to equitable cooperation and the creation of friendly relations with all countries.

The reception was attended by numerous representatives of the political, diplomatic, religious and cultural life. /end/sg
