GURANTEES PROVIDED FOR TRANSFER OF GENERAL MLADIĆ TO SERBIA FOR TREATMENT

BELGRADE, MAY 6 /SRNA/ - Darko Mladić, son of General Ratko Mladić, confirmed to SRNA that the Hague Mechanism was requested that General Mladić be urgently transferred to Serbia for medical treatment, as his vital organs have failed. He emphasized that the state of Serbia has reacted urgently and provided necessary guarantees.

Darko Mladić has said that the family approached the court because they fear that the medical service is hiding General Mladić's health condition and that "this could possibly lead to his death." He has said that General Mladić had a critical situation a little over two weeks ago, which was initially described to the family as serious, but after a few days they were informed that he was in a life-threatening condition. "It involves the failure of vital organs, but I cannot go into details. We requested to immediately receive detailed medical reports, but we were given an oral diagnosis and brief description without any actual medical reports, which we are not sure is completely accurate," said Darko Mladić. He has said that General Mladić is still unable to get out of bed and is very weak. Given the lack of adequate evidence regarding his health condition, the family believes that he is not receiving proper care and cannot receive it given the severity of his health condition. "Until today, the 17th day, we have not received any reports which would normally be given to us the day after we requested them. Therefore, we believe that the medical service of the Tribunal is hiding General's condition, which is why we have turned to the court," emphasized Darko Mladić. According to him, General Mladić's current health situation is potentially the worst. Darko Mladić pointed out that this is already the third time since the beginning of the year that General Mladić has been transferred to the hospital, and previously it was due to cardiovascular problems, but now a completely new issue has arisen. "We see that he cannot be treated in accordance with his health condition, and on the other hand, we fear that the fact that the medical service of the Tribunal is concealing his reports indicates their unwillingness to provide him with adequate medical care, which could potentially lead to his death," added Darko Mladić. "He noted that even the Mechanism’s medical team said that the situation was life-threatening and that they had no prognosis for the future. "They have said it is uncertain how they will treat him, that they do not know what will happen to him, and that this is a life-threatening situation. Based on all of this, we requested an urgent transfer to Serbia to save his life, if possible," emphasized Darko Mladić. He confirmed that the state of Serbia has responded urgently and issued guarantees last week for the transfer of General Mladić to receive medical treatment in Serbia. "We believe that the situation is critical and that it is necessary for the court to react promptly," said Darko Mladić.
