CONSEQUENCES OF NATO BOMBING FELT EVEN AFTER 26 YEARS - INJUSTICE MUST NOT BE FORGOTTEN

EAST SARAJEVO, MARCH 24 /SRNA/ - The Mayor of East Sarajevo Ljubiša Ćosić said that the consequences of the NATO bombing are still felt today, 26 years later, and that the injustice inflicted on the Serbian people must never be forgotten.
Ćosić reminded that on this day, 26 years ago, the NATO aggression against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia began, and that during the 78 days of relentless bombing, thousands of soldiers and civilians were killed, including children. "Not only military facilities were hit, but also hospitals, schools, bridges, and television towers. Places that symbolize life, knowledge, and connection among people were hit," Ćosić told SRNA. He emphasized that this ruthless act was a continuation of the injustice that befell the Serbian people in 1995, when NATO forces bombed Serbian positions in Republika Srpska, indiscriminately targeting and causing enormous casualties. "Unfortunately, we still feel the consequences of all these attacks - both economic and health-related, which is far worse," said Ćosić. He warned that the use of prohibited deadly weapons, such as cluster bombs and depleted uranium-filled grenades, has left long-lasting consequences on the environment and the health of generations that came after that horrific suffering, and even those who are yet to come. "That is why we will never, and must never, forget the injustice inflicted upon us," Ćosić emphasized. He said that, despite everything, we must remain dedicated to peace, but that the remembrance of the victims obliges us to build a stable and secure society, where future generations will live without the fear of war and violence. "Let this be our eternal reminder, and unity and peace the path we will always follow," Ćosić concluded.
