RESPECT PAID TO THOSE WHO DIED IN DEFENSIVE - PATRIOTIC WAR ON THE OCCASION OF DEFENSE DAY

BRATUNAC, APRIL 17 /SRNA/ - On the occasion of the Bratunac Defense Day in 1992, the delegation of the Citizens' Association Eastern Alternative of Republika Srpska laid flowers in the Memorial Room and paid tribute to the fallen Serb fighters and civilians from this municipality in the Defensive-Patriotic War.

Association President Vojin Pavlović told SRNA that on this day 33 years ago, Bratunac was defended from the Muslim Green Berets and the so-called "Patriotic League" and the Serb government was formed in this local community. This led to the organization of Serbian local units, which later became part of the Republika Srpska Army. "The act of armed resistance and the defense of Bratunac enabled the survival of the Serb people in this area," Pavlović stressed. He recalled the great suffering of the Serbs in the central Podrinje during the numerous Muslim incursions from Srebrenica into the Serb villages of Bratunac where mass crimes, murders and massacres were committed, as was done in Zagoni, Ranča, Gornji Magašići, Loznica Rijeka, Ježestica, Fakovići, Bjelovac and Kravica, where dozens of Serb civilians were killed and massacred in one day, and the villages were looted and burned. Pavlović says that the Association has traditionally, since its founding, commemorated this date and does not forget the Serb sacrifices made for the freedom of our people, and expects this date to become the official day of the municipality of Bratunac. According to Pavlović, only the name of one street in Bratunac reminds of April 17, which deserves to be given more attention and for the young generation to know how this place was defended from the planned persecution and pogrom of the Serb population and the destruction of everything Serbian. "That must be known and remembered. The victims must not be forgotten, we must honor them and remind of the people and events that preceded today's life in freedom, which they threaten again and want to take away from us by imposing various unilateral resolutions, false history and denying Serb victims," ​​Pavlović pointed out. He said that Eastern Alternative calls on the Serbian people to unite in defense of freedom and Republika Srpska, which is the only guarantee for the survival of Serbs in these areas.
