LOZO: WITH CULTURE OF MEMORY, WE ALSO PRESERVE REPUBLIKA SRPSKA
BANJA LUKA, APRIL 19 /SRNA/ - Historian Predrag Lozo told SRNA that Jasenovac is the biggest tomb of the Serbian people, because of which in later decades they stood up for their protection and created Republika Srpska, stating that it is because of this that a culture of memory should be cultivated.
"We shouldn't burden the young generation, but they will understand what Republika Srpska is when they grow up if they understand what Jasenovac is," said Lozo on the SRNA podcast. He says that it is important not to produce revenge and hatred when understanding and considering all historical facts. "That is not good for a collective that carries hatred within itself. We need to teach young people the correct relationship between one person and another," said Lozo. He pointed out that the culture of memory is important in order to draw adequate lessons. "Experts, historians and the Serbian Orthodox Church should collect the memories in one place, articulate and rationalize them. After that, learn a lesson and teach it to the generations to come," Lozo pointed out. He emphasized that Republika Srpska is proof that the NDH failed in its idea that Serbs do not exist in these areas. "That's why we need to get away from the statistical observation of victims. We need institutional action when it comes to the culture of memory and to let the profession do its job," said Lozo. He said that the role of the media, especially the News Agency of Republika Srpska - SRNE, is important in everything. "The role of SRNA is especially indispensable when we talk about these topics. We are here together on the same task," Lozo concluded.
