SERBS ARRIVED SAFELY IN DOBROVOLJAČKA STREET, LAYING WHITE ROSES AT CRIME SCENE

SARAJEVO, MAY 3 /SRNA/ - The convoy of Serbs has safely arrived in the former Dobrovoljačka Street and are laying white roses at the place where on this day in 1992 Muslim paramilitary forces massacred JNA members who were peacefully retreating from Sarajevo towards Lukavica.

The Republika Srpska police secured the road to Vrace, where the convoy was taken over by the Sarajevo Canton Interior Ministry members at the inter-entity boundary line, in large numbers. In addition to uniformed policemen, a large number of members of the special unit of the Canton MoI, as well as members of the police in plainclothes, were also observed. With a coordinated operation, they blocked all intersections and streets from Vrace to Dobrovoljačka Street. Although provocations were prepared this year as well, and the media announced that former members of the Green Berets and the so-called BiH Army gathered in Dobrovoljačka Street, there is no organised group on the spot that can be assumed to be members of the former infamous paramilitary unit, the Green Berets. This commemorative meeting is held in silence, very dignified. The convoy consists of the families of the killed and survivors of the crime against JNA members in Dobrovoljačka Street, as well as East Sarajevo residents. Together with them are the envoy of the Serb member and chairman of the BiH Presidency Boško Tomić, acting director of the Republic Research Centre on War, War Crimes and Tracing Missing Persons Viktor Nuždić, head of the Republika Srpska War Veterans Organisation Radan Ostojić, representatives of Serbs in the joint institutions of BiH, as well as parliamentarians. The convoy was joined by the head of the Republika Srpska OrganiSation of Families of Captured, Killed Soldiers and Missing Civilians Isidora Graorac, Mayor LJubiša Ćosić and heads of city municipalities, representatives of neighbouring local communities and other representatives of organisations stemming from the Defensive-Patriotic War as well as veterans from Serbia. Previously, a memorial service was held for the murdered at the church in Miljevići. The JNA convoy was attacked in Dobrovoljačka Street while it was peacefully withdrawing from Sarajevo according to the earlier agreement and with the guarantee of the UN peacekeeping forces headed by General Louis McKenzie. The attack was directed by the then member of the BiH Presidency, Ejup Ganić, and the leadership of the then so-called RBiH. According to the data of the Republic Research Centrev on War, War Crimes and Tracing Missing Persons, at least 28 JNA members were killed in Sarajevo on May 2 and 3.
