PRIJEDOR, MAY 15 /SRNA/ – Kenyans Hilari Kiptoo Mayo Kimayo and Valentina Jebet Benedek were the winners of today's 64th International Street Race in Prijedor.

In the women’s category, second place went to Jasinta Kavindu Pol from Kenya, and third to Milica Tomašević from Serbia, while in the men’s category, second place was claimed by Albert Kipkorir Tonui and third by Kenedy Kipkenoi Rono, both from Kenya. The winner of the senior men’s race, Kimayo, thanked the organizers for the invitation. “It was rainy, but when you’re prepared, you expect anything. I’m overjoyed to have won. Prijedor is an amazing city with wonderful people. I’ll be back next year to chase a fourth victory,” Kimayo told reporters in Prijedor. Benedek, winner in the women’s senior group, said the women were luckier with the weather, as they avoided the rain that affected the men's race. “Thank you to the organizers for the invitation and hospitality. It was a good race,” Benedek added. Acting head of the Department for Culture, International Cooperation, Sports and NGOs, Aleksandar Milješić, said the children's race (cicibani) had to be canceled due to bad weather but will be rescheduled soon. “I ask for understanding from parents, teachers, and the youngest participants. We apologize for the situation, but the safety of the children comes first,” Milješić added. The technical organizers of the race were the Prijedor Athletics Club and the Association of Physical Education Teachers of Prijedor, with the city of Prijedor as the event’s sponsor. The street race is part of the program marking May 16 – City Day.
