VIDAKOVIĆ: GENERAL TALIĆ’S CONTRIBUTION IMMEASURABLE

BANJA LUKA, MAY 25 /SRNA/ - General Momir Talić’s contribution to the defence of Republika Srpska was immeasurable, particularly for breaking through the Posavina corridor, said Nebojša Vidaković, Assistant Minister of Veterans - Invalid Protection, on the occasion of the 22nd anniversary of the general’s death.

Vidaković emphasized that General Talić was one of the great Serb military leaders who commanded the First Krajina Corps of the Republika Srpska Army, later held several other military positions. “General Talić’s greatest contribution was during the breakthrough of the corridor through Posavina in 1992, which enabled road communication and connected the eastern and western parts of Republika Srpska,” Vidaković told the press in Piskavica outside Banjaluka. He recalled that the breakthrough of the corridor saved many lives, especially since there was a UN-imposed air traffic embargo at the time, and children were dying in the Banjaluka maternity ward due to a lack of oxygen. Piskavica, near Banjaluka, is marking today the 22nd anniversary of the death of Colonel General Momir Talić, commander of the First Krajina Corps and Chief of the Republika Srpska Army General Staff. For his military merits, General Talić was awarded the Order of Nemanja, the highest military decoration of Republika Srpska. General Momir Talić passed away on May 28, 2003, at the Military Medical Academy in Belgrade.
