KOHN: CONFERENCE CANCELED DUE TO POLITICAL PRESSURE

SARAJEVO, JUNE 12 /SRNA/ - The Conference of European Rabbis in Sarajevo was canceled due to political pressure Gabriel Kohn, a senior consultant at the Root Agency who was involved in organising the event, cited in his SRNA statement.

"Political pressure was exerted on the hotel to cancel our visit, thus the Conference of European Rabbis in Sarajevo became unwelcome," said Kohn. The President of the Conference of European Rabbis /CER/, Pinchas Goldschmidt, stated yesterday that the meeting of the CER Standing Committee was canceled due to "Sarajevo's rhetoric," and called for BiH to be barred from EU membership. Goldschmidt said that chief rabbis from across Europe, including France, Germany, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom, were supposed to gather in Sarajevo to discuss the most pressing issues European Jews have been facing nowadays, including the issues of freedom of religion or belief.
