SELAK: TEN YEARS OF SILENCE AFTER ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT ON SERBIA'S PRESIDENT
BANJA LUKA, JULY 11 /SRNA/ - Exactly ten years ago, on July 11, 2015, an assassination attempt was made against the then Prime Minister of Serbia, and today the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, at the Memorial Center in Potočari, the president of the SPS, Goran Selak, said and added that it was a lynching attempt, orchestrated and enabled by the silence of those who should have prevented the attack.
"The President of Serbia was barely carried out of the crowd after being attacked with stones, bottles, and other objects, amid a complete security apathy from the institutions that were supposed to guarantee order and safety. Since that day, for a full ten years, there has been nothing but silence from the judicial and security institutions of BiH," Selak told SRNA. He reminded that no one has been held accountable for the assassination attempt, nor has the public been given any explanation. “The silence that has lasted an entire decade is a disgrace to the legal system of BiH and sends a clear message that the attack on the Serbian President is tolerated and goes unpunished,” Selak stated. He added that despite this and many other incidents, Serbia has remained consistent with a policy of peace, stability, and extending a hand of reconciliation to all peoples in the region. “Serbia and the Serbian people have demonstrated their readiness for dialogue and coexistence countless times. However, there can be no reconciliation where justice is applied selectively and victims are counted based on their ethnic background. The Socialist Party of Srpska poses a simple question: Who attacked Aleksandar Vučić on July 11, 2015, and why has no one been held accountable in the ten years since?” Selak emphasized. He called on all institutions in BiH to answer the public: who was behind the attack, who concealed those responsible, and who enabled the attack on the President of Serbia to go unpunished? “The truth cannot be hidden, and silence, no matter how long it lasts, will not erase what happened in Potočari in 2015. The attack on President Vučić was not an isolated incident; it was an attempt at a politically motivated assassination,” said the president of the SPS.
