ELEK: JAHORINA BASKETBALL CLUB BRINGS ABA LEAGUE 2 TO PALE

PALE, JULY 25 /SRNA/ – Basketball Club Jahorina will play in the ABA 2 League next season, which was a goal set when the club began its rise on the sports scene.

PALE, JULY 25 /SRNA/ – Basketball Club Jahorina will play in the ABA 2 League next season, which was a goal set when the club began its rise on the sports scene.

Club President Nedeljko Elek stated that no sports team has achieved success so quickly as Jahorina has and expressed hope for greater support from the local community in the future. "I think no sports team has achieved such great success so quickly as Basketball Club Jahorina Pale. In just two years, we managed to qualify for the BiH Championship, play in the finals of the Republika Srpska Cup, and now the ABA 2 League," Elek pointed out. He thanked everyone who participated and helped achieve this success, especially their brother club and friends from Igokea. Elek said he expects much greater support from the municipality of Pale and the city of East Sarajevo, noting that this is the only club in BiH that does not charge children membership fees or training fees. "Greetings from Pale, the basketball capital of Republika Srpska," Elek said. The ABA League management yesterday published the list of participants for the upcoming season’s second-tier regional competition. In the new format, with 16 clubs divided into four so-called pots, the highest number of teams, as many as five, comes from BiH, of which three are from Republika Srpska: Borac, Student, and Jahorina Clubs. All 16 teams will form a single standings table, and each team will play eight games during the regular season – two games against teams from their own pot and two games against teams from each of the other three pots. Each team will have four home games and four away games. Teams from the same country will not play against each other in the regular season, except when a country has four clubs. In that case, two clubs from the same country may face each other in this phase of the competition. The top eight teams from the regular season will advance to the playoffs and then play the quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals in a best-of-three series. Cibona, Mornar, Zlatibor, and Vojvodina are in the first pot, Helios, Široki, Podgorica, and MZT make the second pot; in the third pot are Sutjeska, Borac, Vršac, and Sloboda from Tuzla; while the fourth pot includes Teodo, TFT Skopje, Jahorina, and Student.
