MEDIĆ: REFERENDUM DECISION SHOULD HAVE BEEN ADOPTED IN FULL UNITY
EAST SARAJEVO, AUGUST 23 /SRNA/ - President of the Creators of Republika Srpska Association, Stevan Medić, told SRNA that the National Assembly’s decision to call a referendum should have been made in full unity, given that it concerns the very survival of Republika Srpska.
“No split should have been allowed between the ruling majority and the opposition. This is a matter of life or death for Republika Srpska, and we are convinced that this time the National Assembly should have acted as one,” said Medić, who served as an MP in the first and second convocations of the National Assembly. Medić emphasized that at this moment there is no room for divisions, and that this is the position of the Association. “We must be united here. Republika Srpska is under threat, the noose is tightening around its neck, and joint action by all political actors is necessary,” Medić warned. He called on the MPs to remember the 1990s and how the National Assembly of Republika Srpska functioned at that time. “Let them recall how, from 1990 to 1997, we had an Assembly that knew how to act in the interest of the people. I believe that should serve as a lesson and an example of how to act in the present day,” Medić said. The National Assembly of Republika Srpska adopted on Friday evening a decision to hold a referendum regarding the ruling of the unconstitutional Court of BiH against Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik and the decision of the Central Election Commission of BiH to terminate the mandate of President Dodik, setting the referendum date for October 25. The referendum question reads: "Do you accept the decisions of the unelected foreigner, Christian Schmidt, and the verdicts of the unconstitutional Court of BiH against the President of Republika Srpska, as well as the decision of the CEC to terminate the mandate of Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik?" Part of the opposition MPs left the vote, while some remained in the assembly hall but did not express their position.
