GUJIĆ: EVERYTHING POINTS TO IMPORTANCE OF SERBIAN UNITY
MOSTAR, SEPTEMBER 15 /SRNA/ – The celebration of the Day of Serbian Unity, Freedom and the National Flag is necessary, because freedom was not handed to the Serbian people on a silver platter, but rather Serbs fought for it for centuries, said the Consul General of Serbia in Mostar, Vaso Gujić, at today’s celebration of this holiday in the city on the Neretva river.
The Consul General of Serbia in Mostar, Vaso Gujić, said that the Day of Serbian Unity, Freedom and the National Flag is very important and is becoming more important with each passing year. "This is the fourth year we are marking the Day of Serbian Unity, Freedom and the National Flag here, and I hope we will continue to do so in the future. It has proven to be necessary, because freedom was not handed to the Serbian people on a silver platter, but rather Serbs fought for it for centuries," Gujić emphasized. He once again called for unity, stressing that it is important that the Serbian people are not be divided along political or regional lines. "It seems that we have a problem stating clearly that a Serb is a Serb wherever he lives, and that Serbia is the homeland. Daily events point to the importance of Serbian unity, to the fact that we need it for survival, and that in pursuing it we are not endangering anyone," Gujić said. He stated that Serbs are on the right path regardless of what happens on a daily basis. The abbot of the Žitomislić Monastery, Danilo Pavlović, thanked Gujić for gathering the Serbs of Mostar at the Consulate. "At this moment our unity is important. Regional and all other divisions must stop, and in order for them to stop we all have to do something about it. The message of this holiday is not only for other people but also for us," Abbot Danilo said. The abbot stressed that Serbia is the mother country for all Serbs and that they must treat it with respect. The reception on the occasion of the Day of Serbian Unity, Freedom and the National Flag was attended by representatives of the municipalities of East Mostar, Nevesinje, Stolac, and Ravno, the Office of Republika Srpska in Mostar, the Serbian Orthodox Church, and Serbian associations from Mostar.
