EXHIBITION "KAFKA: WITHOUT ANCESTORS AND DESCENDANTS" OPENED
PALE, OCTOBER 13 /SRNA/ – An exhibition titled "Kafka: Without Ancestors and Descendants" was opened today at the Faculty of Philosophy in Pale, dedicated to marking the 140th anniversary of the birth of Franz Kafka, one of the most important European and world writers.
The author of the exhibition, Vuka Jeremić from the Svetozar Marković University Library in Belgrade, said that 25 panels present the most important aspects of Kafka's life and work, interesting quotes, and his own reflections on the writing process. "Displayed are portraits, a self-portrait, caricatures, film posters, manuscripts, and biographical representations illustrating his creative path," Jeremić told reporters, adding that the exhibition includes Kafka's works in both original editions and translations. She reminded that Kafka's novels were published posthumously thanks to his friend Max Brod, who preserved and published three major novels. Jeremić noted that only his short stories were published during his lifetime, which was not enough to bring him fame, but soon after being translated into several languages, he became one of the most widely read and interpreted writers in the world. "That is a status he still holds today," Jeremić emphasized, adding that the title of the exhibition comes from Kafka's diary, where he described himself as a man "without ancestors and descendants". The Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Istočno Sarajevo Vladan Bartula emphasized that Kafka is one of the central figures of European and world literature, and that his work is studied across several departments of this higher education institution. "This exhibition and the accompanying conference on Kafka confirm that we are studying him seriously and that we want to bring his work closer to students in a contemporary context. Kafka is a deep and complex writer whose work touches on many fields – from literature, philosophy, and anthropology to psychoanalysis," Bartula stated.
