ANĐELKOVIĆ: PUTIN-TRUMP MEETING IN BUDAPEST OPENS MAJOR OPPORTUNITY FOR SRPSKA

BELGRADE, October 17 /SRNA/ – Political analyst Dragomir Anđelković says Budapest is a good location for a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump, in part because it opens an opportunity for Republika Srpska due to its close ties with Hungary, for the challenges it faces to be brought to the table.

In a statement to SRNA, Anđelković said Budapest was chosen because of its excellent geopolitical location and the fact that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has strong relations with Trump. Despite Hungary being a member of both the EU and NATO, it has maintained consistently respectful relations with Russia and has supported dialogue with Moscow. "Hungary is a good choice as a country within the EU and NATO. There are personal ties between Orban and Trump, and, unlike most Western countries, Hungary also maintains close and functional relations with Moscow," Anđelković said. He emphasized that this is of great importance for Republika Srpska, as President Milorad Dodik has excellent personal relations with Orban, and Hungary has geopolitical interests in Srpska, which it actively supports. "The fact that two of the three most important global leaders Putin and Trump, with only China’s Xi Jinping not included, will meet in Hungary to discuss global issues gives us the opportunity for the problems of BiH and Republika Srpska to be placed on the table," said Anđelković. He stressed that Republika Srpska is in a strong position, as truth is on its side. "We don’t need lobbying for anything contrary to international law or the Dayton Peace Agreement. All we need is an objective approach to the truth," Anđelković stated. According to him, the fact that such a high-level summit is to be held in Hungary provides an opportunity for the issue of violations of the Dayton Peace Agreemen and other matters to be raised, at least in informal discussions. This, he added, creates a chance for the United States to become more actively involved and help prevent further illegal and anti-Dayton actions by certain circles in Europe. "At the end of the day, the Dayton Peace Agreement was born in the United States, and Trump, who is seeking major international achievements, now has a chance to revitalize the Dayton and advance his own ambition to win the Nobel Peace Prize," Anđelković concluded.
