ŠOBOT: NEW HOSPITAL OF WORLD-CLASS STANDARD, HEART ATTACK PATIENTS WILL ALSO BE TREATED

TREBINJE, OCTOBER 23 /SRNA/ - The new hospital in Trebinje is world-class, excellently equipped, and features a new service - an interventional cardiology room, which will be available 24/7 to patients with acute myocardial infarction, said Nikola Šobot, Head of the Cardiac Surgery Clinic at the University Clinical Center of Republika Srpska.

"What I saw here today amazed me in terms of appearance, functionality, quality, and equipment," Šobot told reporters after visiting the new hospital. He emphasized that the task for the upcoming period is to ensure that the Trebinje hospital is functionally integrated into the healthcare system of Republika Srpska. "I am here as the national coordinator for interventional cardiology. The interventional cardiology room will be available to the residents of Trebinje and Herzegovina. With these conditions, I believe we can manage acute myocardial infarctions within 24 hours, seven days a week," Šobot said. Šobot stated that it will also be possible to perform diagnostics for ischemic heart disease, including coronary angiography, and through integration into the healthcare system, patients from Herzegovina will be treated quickly, adequately, and in the best possible way. "We have been intensively training the staff of Trebinje Hospital at the University Clinical Center in the field of interventional cardiology for the past two years. In discussions with representatives of the Ministry of Health and the Government of Republika Srpska, we are planning how to retain staff, which, unfortunately, is increasingly scarce, not only in Trebinje but throughout the region," Šobot said. He added that a strategy is currently being developed to integrate all angiography rooms in Bijeljina, Doboj, Prijedor, Banja Luka, Foča, and Trebinje into a functional network, so that every patient within three hours of a myocardial infarction can be admitted to an angiography room where a stent will be implanted. The Director of Trebinje Hospital, Nedjeljko Lambeta, told reporters that the new hospital building would be completed by December 13, and that all medical equipment would be delivered and installed by the end of next week. "In the second half of November, staff training on the new equipment will begin. At the same time, we are conducting training at the University Clinical Center, as well as in Bijeljina, Dedinje, and other centers," Lambeta said. He added that in December, commercial cardiology, urology, and ophthalmology packages will be announced, providing patients with access to examinations and diagnostics. The Assistant Director for Medical Affairs at Trebinje Hospital, Tatjana Mrdić, told reporters that since the start of construction of the new hospital, training has been ongoing for specialists and mid-level medical staff, and expressed confidence that they will be ready to begin work in the new facility. "Besides the angio room, the new diagnostic procedure will include an MRI machine, which we haven’t had until now, as well as a new mammography unit," Mrdić stated. The head nurse at Trebinje Hospital Dušanka Zečević said that at the beginning of October, a call was announced for 23 nurses and technicians, to which 15 nurses and technicians applied, adding that about ten X-ray technicians and nurses are already undergoing training for the angio room.
