240 PROFESSORS FROM 36 COUNTRIES DISCUSS LEGAL SCIENCE

PALE, OCTOBER 25 /SRNA/ - Legal science is an untapped reservoir of ideas for improving legal systems, said Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of East Sarajevo Goran Marković, speaking today in Pale.

PALE, OCTOBER 25 /SRNA/ - Legal science is an untapped reservoir of ideas for improving legal systems, said Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of East Sarajevo Goran Marković, speaking today in Pale.

"Legal science, both domestic and international, can offer a great deal," Marković emphasized ahead of the scientific conference titled "Law: Cause or Consequence." He noted that the Faculty of Law is organizing this scientific gathering for the 14th time, with 240 authors from 36 countries registered to participate. They will present papers in nine thematic sections, each in their native language. Participants come from five continents, and this year also marks the presentation of the proceedings from last year's conference - published in five volumes - containing 115 papers from authors across 19 countries. "We expect the authors to present numerous concrete proposals and analyses, as well as critical evaluations of the state of national legal systems in their respective countries, as well as of EU and international law," said Marković. He expressed hope that the positions and proposals formulated at this and previous conferences will reach not only the academic community but also decision-makers and practitioners of law, noting that professors of legal science represent the critical conscience of society. "We do not wish merely to reproduce - but to produce. We expect that the academic community and those who shape the legal system and make political decisions, even if they do not adopt the proposals of legal scholars, will at least take them into consideration," Marković said. Dean of the Faculty of Law at Aristotle University in Thessaloniki, Glavinis Panagiotis, stated that the Faculty of Law in Pale is part of the Network of European Law Faculties, which strives to support higher education institutions, students, and communities in aligning their legal frameworks with EU legislation. "This is an opportunity to discuss these matters with both legal scholars and students," Panagiotis noted, adding that he was impressed by the quality of teaching, student knowledge, and research work at the University of East Sarajevo Faculty of Law. He emphasized that the Faculty and the Network are working together to create a legal framework that will assist all regional countries in their integration efforts. Vice-Dean for Scientific Research at the Faculty of Law, Dimitrije Ćeranić, said that today's event represents the largest academic conference in the field of law in all of Europe, featuring 240 professors from 36 countries across five continents. "We can only promise that next year, we will strive to include participants from the remaining two continents as well," Ćeranić added.
