CVIJANOVIĆ: INTERNAL AGREEMENT IS POSSIBLE IF THERE IS NO INTERNATIONAL INTERVENTIONISM
PRIJEDOR, OCTOBER 31 /SRNA/ – The Serb member of the Presidency of BiH Željka Cvijanović stated today, following the UN Security Council session on the situation in BiH, that she welcomes the fact that the United States has made a shift in its foreign policy, but expressed disappointment that the EU representative showed a lack of vision regarding BiH.
"It is encouraging and pleasing that the United States has made a turn in its foreign policy and has established cooperation with Republika Srpska. As a result of that cooperation, and believing in our joint movement and agreements, we have achieved certain things that represent a good foundation," Cvijanović told reporters in Prijedor. She emphasized that she is particularly pleased that the United States, following the policy of President Donald Trump, will no longer interfere in the process of nation- and state-building or in the internal organization of certain nations’ lives. "When there is no such kind of international interventionism involved, you can see a chance for an internal agreement," Cvijanović stressed. However, she said she was disappointed that the EU representative at the Security Council session expressed support for the mission of the High Representative, noting that this demonstrates the EU’s lack of vision toward BiH. "We expected the EU to take on its role as a partner in relations with BiH. Hiding behind High Representatives is not an EU policy. If that’s not the EU’s approach elsewhere, why should it be in BiH," Cvijanović asked. She also pointed out that the member of the Presidency of BiH Željko Komšić spoke independently at the Security Council session, presenting his own political views that do not reflect those of BiH. "Komšić does not represent the collective body that the Presidency of BiH is, an institution that, under the Constitution, is responsible, among other things, for foreign policy. This is yet another example showing that foreign policy does not function and that things can only be corrected if they return to constitutional frameworks. Otherwise, we might as well give up entirely," Cvijanović concluded.
