BANJA LUKA, NOVEMBER 25 /SRNA/ – A patient from Republika Srpska with melanoma meets the criteria to receive a new cancer vaccine in Moscow, and efforts are currently underway to arrange his travel to Russia, Dean of the Banja Luka Medical Faculty Ranko Škrbić told SRNA.

Škrbić said that the patient's medical results have already been sent to Moscow for analysis. "Russian doctors and professors conducted a video interview with him and concluded that he meets the criteria required to receive this therapy. It is now up to us to arrange funding for the patient's travel," Škrbić said. He expressed hope that this issue will be resolved with the support of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of Republika Srpska and the Health Insurance Fund, and that arrangements will be finalized by next week. "This is a new development in treatment, and we need to find a way to complete it. We also face a problem – the inability to make direct payments to Russia due to sanctions, which creates additional complications for patients whose treatment is financed by the Fund," Škrbić explained. The vaccine against melanoma was developed by Alexander Ginzburg, director of the Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, who also created a personalized cancer vaccine for each specific tumor and patient, based on messenger RNA /mRNA/ technology.
