CRNKOVIĆ: THEY WANT TO STORE RADIOACTIVE WASTE FROM ALL OVER CROATIA AT TRGOVSKA GORA

NOVI GRAD, DECEMBER 4 /SRNA/ - Mario Crnković, the president of the Green Team Association in Novi Grad, stated that information about Croatia's plans to store radioactive waste near the border with BiH is still being learned from the media and warned that Trgovska Gora is intended not only for hazardous waste from Krško but also from other parts of Croatia.

Crnković told SRNA that the Expert Team from BiH has repeatedly requested Croatia to provide a characterization of the radioactive waste, but no response has been received. "Yet another in a series of deceptions from Croatia has been exposed, thanks to the media. Representatives of the Expert Team from BiH have repeatedly requested that Croatia provide a characterization of the radioactive waste, only to be manipulated in various ways each time. Every time, they were left without a response," he said. Crnković said that BiH has been requesting information from Croatia about the radioactive waste they intend to store in the border zone, but Croatia has evaded providing answers for 26 years "Thanks to the media, we have learned today that Croatia is moving forward with a public procurement process for the treatment and conditioning of radioactive waste, in which they are asking the contractor to carry out that much-discussed characterization," he said. According to him, it is now clearer why there was so much insistence in the Croatian media on discussing the number of concrete blocks and their weight, rather than the substance itself - what is inside and how radioactive it actually is. "The deception didn't stop there: there is constant talk about supposedly contaminated gloves from Krško, as if gloves were being produced there instead of electricity, which actually results in the generation of radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel," Crnković said. He added that Croatia does not intend to store only radioactive waste from Krško at Trgovska Gora, but also other hazardous waste from across Croatia. "According to many, these other hazardous wastes cause even greater concern, given the serious criminal scandals in Croatia witnessed in recent months, including the burial of imported hazardous waste across the country," Crnković said. He recalled that BiH activated the mechanisms of the ESPOO Convention earlier this year and stressed that authorities at the local level, as well as at the level of Republika Srpska, the Federation of BiH, and BiH should have reserved funds for 2026, both for initiating lawsuits and financing activities that protect the interests of citizens.
