REGIONAL GASTROENTEROLOGY CONFERENCE OPENS

JAHORINA, December 5 /SRNA/ - The Minister of Health and Social Welfare of Republika Srpska Alen Šeranić opened a three-day symposium titled Gastroenterology Days on Jahorina, bringing together experts in gastroentero-hepatology from across the region to exchange professional knowledge and experience and to promote young physicians.

Emphasizing the importance of the gathering for the healthcare system, Šeranić noted that, alongside the Ministry's ongoing efforts to improve hospital infrastructure and equipment, such symposiums organized by professional associations play a major role in the education and advancement of physicians and other medical staff. Šeranić expressed satisfaction that the symposium will cover modern topics, especially highlighting the involvement of young doctors - specialists and residents in gastroenterohepatology - who will present case studies and gain valuable experience, as well as nurses working in the same field. "It is very important that associations like this approach topics as a team and address diseases through teamwork," Šeranić stressed. He added that he was particularly pleased that interventional diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in gastroenterohepatology would also be discussed, as this contributes to standardizing healthcare practices. It is especially significant, he noted, that doctors from advanced medical centers will be able to share these procedures with colleagues from other institutions. Romana Rajić of the Gastroentero-hepatology Association of Republika Srpska said that the event on Jahorina was organized jointly by their association and the Association of Gastroentero-hepatologists of BiH, under the patronage of the Office of the President of Republika Srpska. "Given the increasing prevalence of intestinal diseases, we recognized the importance of such gatherings, the value of exchanging experience in patient treatment, and the need to share knowledge about new diagnostic procedures - all with the aim of providing adequate therapy and safeguarding patient health," Rajić stated. Goran Bokan, Chair of the Organizing Committee, explained that the symposium is structured around several always-relevant thematic units, with special emphasis on inflammatory bowel diseases, novelties in hepatology, and interventional endoscopy procedures. "We devoted particular attention to the session for young doctors and nurses," Bokan added. He noted that the symposium brought together participants not only from Republika Srpska, but also from Serbia, Slovenia, and Croatia. The presence of foreign experts, he said, is especially important for young physicians, enabling them to learn from case studies involving less common clinical challenges encountered in other medical centers. The symposium runs until Sunday, December 7.
