DUKE SLAVKO ALEKSIĆ WAS A GREAT HERO
BILEĆA, DECEMBER 20 /SRNA/ – Duke Slavko Aleksić was a great hero who proved his love for his homeland in the best possible way by defending his people and freedom, it was pointed out today at the commemoration held on the occasion of Aleksić’s death at the Cultural Centre in Bileća.
The Mayor of Bileća, Miodrag Parežanin, said that Aleksić was an honorable man whom everyone respected and admired, valuing him for who he was. Expressing condolences to Aleksić’s family, as well as to his comrades and friends, Parežanin emphasized that this gathering itself shows how significant the name of Duke Aleksić is. “It is up to us to remember and to teach the generations to come, so that it is not forgotten how great Bileća is and how many heroes and military leaders it has produced. Duke Aleksić was a hero who carried the glorious name of Bileća far and wide, defending, preserving, and protecting his own people, both during the time of war operations and in peace, by preserving the dignity of a warrior and the honour of a hero,” Parežanin said. The Head of the Committee of Families of Fallen Soldiers of the Republika Srpska War Veterans Organisation, Branko Grahovac, said they are proud of Duke Aleksić, who, according to all international conventions of warfare, was a true Serb fighter, and who in peacetime showed everyone through his modesty not to be greedy or arrogant. At the commemoration, Aleksić’s friend, poet Miroslav Radovanović, as well as writer and politician from Montenegro, Aćim Višnjić, also addressed those present. Former commander of the Novo Sarajevo Chetnik Detachment, Slavko Aleksić, passed away on December 18 after a long and serious illness at the hospital in Trebinje, and was buried today in the village of Bogdašići near Bileća. He was born in 1956 in the village of Bogdašići near Bileća. He spent most of his life in Sarajevo, where he studied law and worked at the post office. From 1990, he actively participated in the formation of the Chetnik movement in Sarajevo, and after the outbreak of the war, he assumed a command role in the Novo Sarajevo Chetnik Detachment, headquartered in Grbavica.
