MORE LOCAL COMMUNITIES NAME STREETS AFTER JASENOVAC VICTIMS
BANJALUKA, JANUARY 5 /SRNA/ – In Republika Srpska, 25 local communities have a Jasenovac Victims Street, while seven more are expected to introduce it soon, accounting for half of the total number of cities and municipalities, SRNA was told at the Ministry of Administration and Local Self-Government of Srpska.
The Ministry reminded that these are municipalities that have implemented the conclusion of the Government of Republika Srpska, which stipulates that each local self-government unit should designate a street named Jasenovac Victims Street. Seven local communities, the Ministry noted, already had street names in line with this initiative and therefore did not need additional renaming. These are Banja Luka, Bijeljina, Gradiška, Laktaši, Prijedor, Teslić, and Ugljevik. "Meanwhile, Bileća, Bratunac, Višegrad, Vukosavlje, Derventa, Donji Žabar, Zvornik, Istočna Ilidža, Kozarska Dubica, Kostajnica, Milići, Nevesinje, Novi Grad, Oštra Luka, Pale, Srbac, Trebinje, and Foča have fully implemented the Government's conclusion," the Ministry specified. In seven local self-government units, the procedure for naming the street is currently under way - Brod, Kalinovik, Modriča, Mrkonjić Grad, Stanari, Trnovo, and Šamac. "Certain local communities are currently unable to fully implement the conclusion due to spatial and technical reasons, which they have reported to the Ministry," they noted at the Ministry. They added that some of these communities are in the process of identifying appropriate solutions. There are 64 local communities in Republika Srpska. On the occasion of marking 80 years since the breakout of the last group of Jasenovac camp inmates, the Government of Republika Srpska tasked the Ministry of Administration and Local Self-Government with requesting that all local self-government units name one of their streets Jasenovac Victims Street.
