CALLS FOR IMMEDIATE MEDICAL TRANSFER OF MLADIĆ TO SERBIA
BELGRADE, APRIL 15 /SRNA/ – Serbian Minister of Justice Nenad Vujić today once again called on the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals in The Hague to allow Serbian General Ratko Mladić to receive medical treatment in Serbia, warning that any further delay could have unforeseeable consequences for his health and life.
Vujić stated that it is unacceptable for the basic human right to medical treatment to be called into question, and reminded that Serbia has repeatedly submitted official requests for General Mladić to be allowed to receive treatment in Serbia, with all necessary state guarantees, but that these requests have remained without an adequate response. The Serbian Minister of Justice therefore again urged the Mechanism in The Hague and other competent international institutions to allow, without delay, General Mladić's treatment in Serbia, in accordance with the principles of humanity, international law, and universal human rights standards, the Serbian Ministry of Justice said in a statement. "Serbia is ready to assume full responsibility for implementing all guarantees that would be required in order to provide General Mladić with adequate medical care", Vujić stated. He stressed that the Ministry of Justice will continue to use all available legal and diplomatic means to protect the rights of General Ratko Mladić and ensure respect for his fundamental human rights. General Ratko Mladić recently suffered a mild stroke and is now in a very serious condition, his son Darko Mladić told SRNA today. Mladić has suffered several strokes and has serious cardiovascular conditions, high blood pressure, neurological damage, as well as kidney problems.
