SELAK: COMPLAINTS TO BE FILED OVER INADEQUATE MEDICAL TREATMENT OF GENERAL MLADIĆ
BANJA LUKA, APRIL 23 /SRNA/ - The Minister of Justice of Republika Srpska Goran Selak said that the competent institutions of Serbia and Republika Srpska are monitoring the situation regarding General Ratko Mladić and will likely file complaints against those responsible for inadequate medical care in detention in The Hague.
Selak told reporters in Banja Luka that both Republika Srpska and Serbia are prepared to provide guarantees should approval be granted for General Mladić to continue treatment in his home country. He added that, in his capacity, he could not comment on the general’s health condition, but that it is known to be poor. General Ratko Mladić suffered a stroke on April 10, and his already serious condition has further deteriorated; he has severe neurological, cardiovascular, and nephrological problems. He has spent the last two years in the prison hospital, and for the past year and a half, he has been bedridden. Despite this, the Residual Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals in The Hague has refused to grant him temporary release for medical treatment.
