SERB PEOPLE STILL FIGHTING AGAINST OCCUPATIONAL ADMINISTRATION IN BiH
BELGRADE, APRIL 28 /SRNA/ – BiH Ambassador to Serbia Aleksandar Vranješ says that the Serb people is still, 108 years after the death of Gavrilo Princip and 112 years after the Sarajevo assassination, fighting against an occupational administration in BiH.
"More than a century later, we still have an occupation. More or less, the form has changed, the stakeholders have changed, but the essence has remained the same - there is a foreign force that deprives the Serb people in BiH of their rights," Vranješ told SRNA, after laying a wreath today at the monument to Gavrilo Princip in Belgrade to mark the 108th anniversary of his death. He stated that, on behalf of the Embassy of BiH, he came to pay tribute to Gavrilo Princip's shadows and to thank him for everything he left behind. Vranješ says that history is cyclical and sometimes paradoxical, that the Serb people is still dealing with this today, and that this is why it is important to remember Princip's role and heroism. The Head of the Republika Srpska Representative Office in Serbia Mlađen Cicović told SRNA that it is extremely important for Serbs to remember their true heroes, to work on establishing a culture of remembrance, and above all to preserve Serb history from oblivion, as it is glorious and a source of pride. "That is why it is important that we gathered today to remember Gavrilo Princip, a man who left an exceptionally strong mark on Serb history and demonstrated resistance at a time when the Serb people were completely endangered," Cicović said. He added that the situation in BiH today is completely identical, as the Serb people is once again endangered and must fight for freedom, while preserving their identity, culture, tradition, and customs. "That is why it is important to work on establishing a culture of remembrance, to mark all significant dates in the history of Serbs, as it is a guarantee that we will survive in these areas," Cicović said. He concluded that the Serb people in both Serbia and Republika Srpska will once again overcome all challenges and trials and preserve their freedom.
