DOBROVOLJAČKA - 34 YEARS SINCE UNPUNISHED CRIME

SARAJEVO, MAY 3 /SRNA/ - White roses were laid today, and candles were lit at the site in the former Dobrovoljačka Street in Sarajevo where, on this day in 1992, Muslim paramilitary forces attacked JNA members who were peacefully withdrawing from Sarajevo toward Lukavica.

After a memorial service in Miljevići, the families of the victims and numerous delegations traveled by bus to Sarajevo, to Hamdije Kreševljakovića Street, formerly Dobrovoljačka, where they paid tribute to the fallen JNA members through a peaceful walk, laying flowers, and lighting candles. Peaceful walk was led by the Serb member of the Presidency of BiH, Željka Cvijanović and in attendance were the Minister of Finance and Treasury in the Council of Ministers, Srđan Amidžić, Republika Srpska ministers Radan Ostojić and Draga Mastilović, and Deputy Minister of Defense in the Council of Ministers, Aleksandar Goganović. Also present are members of parliament and Serb representatives in the joint institutions of BiH, representatives of associations originating from the Defensive-Patriotic War, as well as representatives of the City of Istočno Sarajevo and its constituent municipalities. Police of Republika Srpska secured the route up to Vraca, where they were taken over at the inter-entity line by a large number of members of the Sarajevo Canton Ministry of the Interior. The JNA convoy was attacked in Dobrovoljačka Street while peacefully withdrawing from Sarajevo in accordance with a prior agreement and under the guarantee of UN peacekeeping forces led by General Lewis MacKenzie. The attack was directed by the then member of the Presidency of BiH, Ejup Ganić, and the leadership of the then so-called Republic of BiH. According to data from the Republika Srpska Center for Research of War, War Crimes and the Search for Missing Persons, at least 28 JNA members were killed in Sarajevo on May 2 and 3. The court proceedings for this case are still ongoing before the Court of BiH.
