KARAN: HISTORICAL MEMORY PRESERVATION IS SERB AND RUSSIAN PEOPLES' SHARED OBLIGATION
MOSCOW, MAY 8 /SRNA/ - Republika Srpska President Siniša Karan has stated today in Moscow that the Serb and Russian peoples are perhaps connected more than anything else by the historical components of the anti-fascist and freedom-fighting struggle, which is why preserving historical memory is a shared obligation.
Ahead of the Victory Day ceremony in Moscow, Karan says it is especially important to emphasize the great sacrifice both peoples made for the freedom of all Europe. "Today, when we are witnessing processes of denial and even the promotion of ideologies against which we fought - the ideologies of Nazism, fascism, and Ustashism, when the substitution of aggressor and victim is taking place, it is our state, patriotic, civic, and personal duty to prevent and eliminate any kind of historical revisionism in this way," Karan said. According to him, this duty is owed above all to all the victims who gave their lives for the freedom enjoyed today. "From that globalist perspective, in a multipolar world of changes, the attempted history revision precisely is one of the themes. It is happening in every field, connected with all processes, and I believe that our support and our presence here send a strong message of resistance to such revisionism," Karan told media outlets from Republika Srpska. Karan stressed that this is, on the one hand, an obligation toward all those victims thanks to whom freedom exists today, and on the other hand toward future generations, who must never allow the repetition of such events. Karan emphasized that this historical memory served as the foundation for the creation of Republika Srpska. "Republika Srpska was created on the historical memory and remembrance of the genocide committed against the Serb people during World War II. Today, Republika Srpska is the state-forming framework for the Serb people to ensure that what they experienced more than 80 years ago is never repeated," Karan said. Republika Srpska officials will attend tomorrow's ceremony in Moscow marking Victory Day. The Republika Srpska delegation includes Republika Srpska President Siniša Karan, Republika Srpska National Assembly Speaker Nenad Stevandić, and SNSD Leader Milorad Dodik.
