CVIJANOVIĆ: WE WANT TO HEAR FROM EUROPEANS THAT DECISION-MAKING MUST RETURN TO DOMESTIC INSTITUTIONS

SARAJEVO, MAY 11 /SRNA/ - The Serb member of the BiH Presidency Željka Cvijanović stated that the European Union, if it consistently adhered to its legal acquis and proclaimed principles, would never support laws in a foreign country being imposed by an individual for whom no voter in that country has ever voted.

She noted that the Dayton Peace Accords never envisaged the possibility of such a role for a foreigner, nor the existence of the Peace Implementation Council and especially not the use of so-called "Bonn powers". "We want to hear from Europeans that the decision-making process must be returned to domestic institutions, not that they advocate the continuation of colonial administration", Cvijanović wrote on the social network X. "It would be normal and logical for Europeans to state that unilaterally imposed laws, which bypass parliamentary procedure, cannot be considered part of the legal system of a state that claims to be democratic. Unfortunately, we have not heard that from Europeans", Cvijanović pointed out. Cvijanović emphasized that Christian Schmidt's departure is important, but expressed skepticism that Europeans would be able to turn it to their advantage. "In any case, it is good that some have forced him to leave, but it is not enough to heal the unhealthy environment that he and those like him have created in BiH", Cvijanović stated.
