MOTION TO RELEASE GENERAL MLADIĆ FOR MEDICAL TREATMENT IN SERBIA HAS BEEN REJECTED
BELGRADE, MAY 14 /SRNA/ - The Hague Mechanism has rejected the defense’s motion to release General Ratko Mladić for medical treatment in Serbia due to his serious health condition, his son Darko Mladić told SRNA.
"Тhe Hague Tribunal has, for the umpteenth time, shown that it deals with politics rather than justice and law. Unfortunately, our request was rejected," said Darko Mladić. According to him, the Mechanism explains that Mladić is receiving the best possible medical care from the best possible doctors, who have been treating him for urinary infections after he suffered a stroke. "These are doctors who failed to detect the stroke before he suffered a second stroke. That level of cynicism in the Hague Tribunal has become unbelievable," said Darko Mladić. General Ratko Mladić suffered a stroke on April 10, and his serious health condition has further deteriorated, as he is also facing severe neurological, cardiovascular, and nephrological problems. He was transferred on May 2 from the detention facility to a civilian hospital in The Hague due to suspicion of a stroke. Since doctors at the time did not confirm that the general had suffered a stroke, he was returned to the detention hospital. General Mladić has been held in the detention hospital in The Hague since 2024, where he is under palliative care. The Mechanism has repeatedly rejected requests for his temporary release for medical treatment in Serbia.
