TADIĆ: THE PIC HAS BROUGHT ITSELF TO HUMILIATION, THE UN SECURITY COUNCIL SHOULD TAKE OVER CONTROL

SARAJEVO, JUNE 4 /SRNA/ – After humiliating the United Nations Security Council five years ago by deciding, without the Council's consent, that Christian Schmidt should usurp the role of high representative, the so-called Peace Implementation Council /PIC/ has now, through the same misguided policy, brought itself to humiliation and a loss of authority, lawyer Ognjen Tadić told SRNA.

He pointed out that this is a situation in which the UN Security Council, for the sake of peace in BiH, should once again take control by making a decision on the future of the high representative position and a decision that would halt the anti-Dayton actions of the so-called Peace Implementation Council. "Neither the Dayton Peace Agreement, nor all of us in BiH, nor the restoration of the authority and reputation of the UN Security Council, nor anyone can help bring the situation in BiH to a state of respect for the Dayton Peace Agreement, unless the UN Security Council itself does so as soon as possible," Tadić stressed. Returning the issue of appointing a high representative to the UN Security Council, Tadić says, is the only way to establish authority and legitimacy. "Moreover, it is the most efficient way to prevent the conflict between Trump's policy and the defeated Biden policy which, after its defeat in the United States, found refuge in certain European governments, from continuing within the so-called Peace Implementation Council. Instead, decisions on BiH should be made in the UN Security Council, where the legitimacy of the current U.S. policy can be expressed to a greater extent," Tadić stated. The political directors of the member states of the Steering Board of the Peace Implementation Council /PIC/, during their two-day meeting in Sarajevo, failed to reach a consensus on a candidate for the post of high representative, although such appointments are not within their formal competence. They postponed a decision until the end of the month. The appointment of a high representative is expected by the end of June. During the two-day discussions, two candidates emerged as frontrunners: Italian diplomat Antonio Zanardi Landi, nominated by Italy with the support of the United States, and French diplomat René Troccaz, nominated by France with the backing of Germany and the United Kingdom, report FBiH media.
