CICOVIĆ: SPECIAL POLICE BRIGADE WAS ONE OF THE PILLARS OF REPUBLIKA SRPSKA'S DEFENCE
PALE, JUNE 7 /SRNA/ – The Special Police Brigade was one of the pillars of the defence of Republika Srpska and operated throughout its entire territory, said Borislav Cicović, the head of the Veterans Association of the Jahorina First Detachment of the Special Police Brigade.
Cicović stated that more than 400 members served in the Jahorina First Detachment during the war, 30 of whom were killed and about 100 wounded, while a number of others later died as a result of wounding. “We did not think about glory, but solely about defending our people and Republika Srpska. We neither started the war nor ended it; we simply carried out our duty in it,” Cicović emphasized. He noted that the presence of the Republika Srpska prime minister and parliamentary ministers at the memorial service and wreath-laying ceremony for fallen members of the unit confirmed that their sacrifice has not been forgotten. “What matters most to us is that we have not been forgotten and that care is being taken of us, as well as of the families of the fallen and surviving members,” Cicović told the press after the wreath-laying ceremony. He particularly thanked Interior Minister Željko Budimir, noting that he understands the needs of the children of fallen and surviving members of the unit. Željko Janković Luna, the head the Special Police Brigade Veterans Organisation, recalled that the Jahorina First Detachment was formed in the early days of the war to defend the Romanija region and the eastern Republika Srpska. Janković explained that after the establishment of the Serb special unit in Vraca, the need was recognised for similar units in other areas, leading to the formation of the Jahorina detachment, which covered the broader Romanija region. He stressed that the detachment made great sacrifices, with many killed and wounded soldiers, and that its anniversary is commemorated with pride today while preserving the memory of their contribution to the defence of Republika Srpska. The Jahorina First Detachment of the Republika Srpska Special Police Brigade marked its Unit Day today. Visitors gathered at the Sara Hall were also able to view an exhibition featuring all nine detachments of the Special Police Brigade, from Trebinje to Prijedor.
