"GIRO DI `ĆIRO` SARAJEVO-PALE" BICYCLE PATH OFFICIALLY OPENED

ISTOČNO SARAJEVO, JUNE 8 /SRNA/ - At the bypass-viewpoint location, the bicycle path "Giro di `Ćiro` Sarajevo-Pale" was officially opened today, representing an important step towards the development of active tourism in this part of Republika Srpska and BiH.

ISTOČNO SARAJEVO, JUNE 8 /SRNA/ - At the bypass-viewpoint location, the bicycle path "Giro di `Ćiro` Sarajevo-Pale" was officially opened today, representing an important step towards the development of active tourism in this part of Republika Srpska and BiH.



The meeting of cyclists from Pale and Sarajevo at the bypass-viewpoint marked the opening of the path. The opening was attended by the Head of the EU Delegation to BiH Luigi Soreca, Mayor of Istočno Sarajevo Ljubiša Ćosić, Mayor of Sarajevo Samir Avdić, Mayors of Pale Dejan Kojić, Istočni Stari Grad Bojo Gašanović, Stari Grad Irfan Čengić, and cyclist representatives Milan Božić and Nermin Iković. Among those gathered were also members of cycling clubs from Republika Srpska and the Federation of BiH. The construction of the "Giro di `Ćiro` Sarajevo-Pale" bicycle path was financed by the EU with 2.3 million euros in grants, as part of its continuous support for sustainable tourism in BiH, with the aim of promoting a healthier lifestyle for citizens. The construction of the bicycle path included the rehabilitation of nine tunnels, two bridges, one bypass, and the installation of traffic signals and protective fencing. The project was implemented in cooperation with the cities of Istočno Sarajevo and Sarajevo, and the municipalities of Pale, Istočni Stari Grad, and Stari Grad. The route of the "Giro di `Ćiro` Sarajevo-Pale" bicycle path starts from the Sarajevo City Hall, passes through the Dariva pedestrian zone, and connects to the route of the narrow-gauge railway near the "Vrelo života" location, with the final point of the route at the old railway station in Pale.
