MINIĆ: ONLY HAGUE KEEPS SERIOUSLY ILL PEOPLE IN DETENTION, SUCH AS GENERAL MLADIĆ

BIJELJINA, JUNE 12 /SRNA/ - Republika Srpska Prime Minister Savo Minić said that, apart from the Hague Tribunal, there is no other institution in the world that keeps in detention a seriously ill person such as General Ratko Mladić.

BIJELJINA, JUNE 12 /SRNA/ - Republika Srpska Prime Minister Savo Minić said that, apart from the Hague Tribunal, there is no other institution in the world that keeps in detention a seriously ill person such as General Ratko Mladić.

"That reflects the attitude towards us and explains why the Tribunal was established, who is held in its detention facilities, and who has been sentenced to the longest terms," Minić told reporters in Bijeljina. Serbia has announced that it will highlight the case of General Ratko Mladić at a UN Security Council session on the work of the Hague Mechanism, as his health condition goes beyond any political or legal aspect and concerns, above all, the respect for fundamental human rights. General Mladić suffered his first stroke on April 10 and another on May 2, after which his health further deteriorated due to serious neurological, cardiovascular, and nephrological conditions. He has been held in the detention hospital in The Hague since 2024, where he is under palliative care. The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals in The Hague has repeatedly rejected requests for General Mladić to be granted temporary release for medical treatment in Serbia.
