NO CONVICTIONS FOR CRIMES AGAINST SERBS IN PODRINJE, EVEN THOUGH PERPETRATORS ARE KNOWN

BELGRADE, JULY 3 /SRNA/ - During the past war in the Podrinje region, children aged five, six, and seven were killed simply because they were Serbs, yet there are no convictions for the crimes committed against the Serbian people in Bratunac, Srebrenica, and Kravica, even though the perpetrators are known, stated Mirjana Miodrag Božin, President of the Coordination of Serbian Associations of Families of Missing, Murdered and Killed Persons from the Territory of the Former Yugoslavia.

On the occasion of tomorrow's commemoration marking more than three decades since the crimes against 3,267 Serbs from central Podrinje and Birač, Božin told SRNA that the Serbian people must nurture a culture of remembrance. "We must educate young generations about how the crimes against Serbs were committed and not allow the history of Serbian suffering to be altered," Božin pointed out. She reminded that during the past war in the areas of Bratunac, Srebrenica, and Kravica, around 3,300 Serbs perished, including 45 children aged five, six, and seven. It is essential, she says, to mention those 45 children who were killed solely because they were Serbs. "That is very important to state. Because, regardless of everything else, those who put on a uniform know what can happen to them, but women, children, and the elderly should have been protected by everyone, rather than being killed in such a manner," said Božin. She added that the Coordination supports the actions of the Organization of Families of Captured and Killed Fighters and Missing Civilians of Republika Srpska in their efforts to uncover the truth about the suffering of the Serbian people and to ensure everyone is held accountable for these crimes.
