CVIJANOVIĆ: MEMBERS OF NATIONAL ASSEMBLY DEMONSTRATED POLITICAL RESPONSIBILITY AND MATURITY
BANJA LUKA, JULY 7 /SRNA/ – The Serb member of the BiH Presidency Željka Cvijanović assessed that deputies in the National Assembly of Republika Srpska demonstrated responsibility and political maturity by supporting, with a two-thirds majority, her statement under which the disputed BiH Presidency decision appointing members of the Commission to Preserve National Monuments will be rendered ineffective.
Speaking to reporters in Banja Luka, Cvijanović said the National Assembly of Republika Srpska must always remain the institution that decides whenever the Serb member of the BiH Presidency is outvoted or decisions detrimental to Republika Srpska are imposed. She added that the move was aimed at preventing what she described as numerous and evident irregularities, manipulations and abuses within the Commission to Preserve National Monuments. "Another problem with this commission is that, outside the Dayton framework, it has sought to appropriate numerous powers by encroaching on entity competencies, which is unacceptable to Republika Srpska. It has interfered in many areas such as construction, urban planning, spatial planning documentation and similar matters," Cvijanović explained. She reiterated that protecting the interests of Republika Srpska is her constitutional obligation. "The goal is to prevent outvoting, manipulation and irregularities in this and similar matters. We will not remain silent about issues like these. The National Assembly has full legal legitimacy and constitutional authority to deal with such matters," Cvijanović said. She stressed that BiH's affairs must be returned to a normal course and improved. "We are committed to putting things back in order. Irregularities, disorder, usurpation and interference in the competencies of others benefit no one. We need to reach solutions that are good for everyone," Cvijanović said.
