VIŠEGRAD REGATTA ATTRACTS A LARGE NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS FROM THE COUNTRY AND ABROAD
VIŠEGRAD, JULY 11 /SRNA/ - The Višegrad Regatta brought together today a large number of participants from Višegrad, neighbouring municipalities in Republika Srpska and Serbia, as well as guests from several European countries, who once again promoted the natural beauty of this area by sailing through the Drina River canyon.
This year's 19th regatta set off this morning from beneath the arches of the Mehmed Paša Sokolović Bridge, with participants sailing about 15 kilometres downstream along the Drina River to Stari Brod. Director of the Višegrad Tourist Organisation Jadranko Janjić said that more than 30 vessels from Višegrad and neighbouring municipalities in Republika Srpska and Serbia are taking part in the regatta. "Today we are also joined by guests from Denmark, Austria, France, Germany, Slovenia, as well as other Balkan countries, who trace their roots to these areas. For many of them, this is a special day because they have the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the Drina River and reunite with friends and family in their homeland," Janjić said. He noted that Višegrad has more than one hundred river vessels that cruise the Drina River every day during the tourist season, and expressed his expectation that an even larger number of vessel owners will take part in the regatta in the coming years. Višegrad Mayor Mladen Đurević pointed out that the Višegrad Regatta is one of the most significant tourist events, presenting the municipality's natural resources in the best possible way. "The Drina is our greatest natural asset, and the Višegrad Regatta is an opportunity to present it to numerous guests from the region and abroad. We will continue to support this event because it contributes to the development of tourism, the promotion of Višegrad and the strengthening of friendship among the people who gather here every year," Đurević said.
