CRNKOVIĆ: FILM SEEKS TO SHOW WHY THE UNA RIVER MUST BE PROTECTED
NOVI GRAD, AUGUST 20 /SRNA/ — The Una River is facing the threat of radioactive waste being stored in its vicinity, which could permanently alter its character. The documentary Una, the River That Connects seeks to show what the river means to the people who live along its banks, Green Team association president Mario Crnković said.
Crnković stressed that protecting the Una is much more than a local or environmental issue, describing it as a responsibility towards future generations. "The Una knows no administrative borders, so concern for its future must not be stopped by political differences or individual interests," Crnković said. Crnković, who produced the documentary, told SRNA that the filmmakers sought to convey at least part of the emotion the Una inspires in the people who live along it. He stressed that the Una is more than a beautiful river: for the people living along its banks, it is part of their identity, memories and everyday lives. He said it was important that the film should not remain merely a beautiful story watched in a cinema. "The Una is facing threats that could permanently change its character, from harmful projects and pollution to plans to dispose of radioactive waste in the immediate vicinity of the river and the BiH border. We want this film to continue its journey, and we will do our best to have it seen by as many people as possible," Crnković said, thanking the film's creators, Dejan Rakita and Mišo Kojić.
