KOSACHEV: EU CONDEMNS MLADIĆ, BUT REMAINS SILENT ON NATIONALISM IN UKRAINE

MOSCOW, AUGUST 27 /SRNA/ - By putting Serbian General Ratko Mladić on trial while hiding behind alleged principles of adherence to universal human values, Europe demonstrated the greatest hypocrisy and cynicism, Russian Federation Council Deputy Chairman Konstantin Kosachev said.

“That same Europe remains silent, concealing its professed commitment to human values as deeply as it can when it comes to the overt and misanthropic nationalism in Ukraine,” Kosachev wrote on Telegram. Kosachev pointed out that even before the start of the Special Military Operation, at least 16,000 people had been killed in Donbas by what he described as the successors, supporters, followers, and admirers of Ukrainian nationalists, TASS reported. “I would like the judges who tried Mladić in The Hague to turn in their graves and be cursed during their lifetime. I know of no greater hypocrisy and cynicism in Europe,” Kosachev said. At a UN Security Council meeting in June, Moscow called for the Mechanism to allow General Mladić to be temporarily released to receive medical treatment in Serbia. General Ratko Mladić, wartime commander of the Main Staff of the Republika Srpska Army, died at a detention hospital in The Hague at the age of 83. General Mladić had been in a detention hospital in The Hague since 2024, where he had been bedridden for the past year and a half, while the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals in The Hague ignored calls for him to be released on humanitarian grounds to receive medical treatment in Serbia. The Mechanism said that its President, Graciela Gatti Santana, “ordered an investigation into the death of General Mladić at the detention hospital in The Hague.”
