KOS: BiH CLOSE TO MEETING REQUIREMENTS, BUT MAKING NO PROGRESS ON ITS EU PATH

BRUSSELS, NOVEMBER 4 /SRNA/ – BiH is close to meeting the requirements for advancing towards EU membership, but has not yet fulfilled all the conditions, European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos said.

Following the presentation of this year's Enlargement Package, she said that EU candidate countries had been divided into three groups, with BiH placed in the second group alongside North Macedonia and self-proclaimed Kosovo. This group comprises candidates that are making no progress towards EU membership, while Serbia has been placed among the countries that, in Brussels' assessment, are moving "backwards". Kos emphasized that although the first group includes four countries that have made the greatest progress, Brussels must continue working with BiH and Serbia to encourage them to make progress as well. "We need to do more before the next report so that BiH can advance on its path towards European integration," Kos emphasized. She added that EU member states also needed to step up their engagement to help BiH and other countries in the region make progress.
