MEMORIAL SERVICE HELD IN LJUBOGOŠTA FOR 17 FALLEN SOLDIERS

PALE, JUNE 1 /SRNA/ – As part of the "Remembrance of June 1992" commemoration, a memorial service was held today in Ljubogošta near Pale, and wreaths were laid at the monument dedicated to 17 soldiers from that area who were killed during the Defensive–Patriotic War.

Member of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska Aco Stanišić said that the beginning of June 1992 is marked in black in the history of Pale, when a large number of members of the Army of Republika Srpska gave their lives for Srpska. He emphasized that these were the mistakes of inexperience, when the Serb people still placed trust in their former neighbors. President of the City Assembly of East Sarajevo Boško Jugović stated that the heroes whose names are engraved on the monument made a tremendous sacrifice, so that the suffering of Serbs thrown into pits during World War II would never be repeated. First-category war veteran Radoje Vojvodić, who also chairs the Commission for Culture of Remembrance and Memory, recalled that in 2023 they released a film titled "80 Years of Silence", which tells the story of the Pale-area villages of Jelovci and Rakovac, where more than 400 civilians were killed, including 143 children. He emphasized that this year they aim to publish a memorial book about Žepa. "Our primary task is to mark and document every site of suffering and to preserve the tradition and memory, because without them, there would be no Republika Srpska," said Vojvodić.
