SRPSKA'S GOVERNMENT COMMISSION PREPARING PROJECT FOR RECONSTRUCTION OF HRUSIJA TOWER

EAST SARAJEVO, JUNE 3 /SRNA/ – The Government Commission of Republika Srpska for the Hilandar Monastery, at the initiative of the President of Srpska Milorad Dodik, is preparing a project for the reconstruction of the Hrusija Tower near this holy site, said today the President of the Commission Marko Romić.

Romić stated that the Commission is also preparing a documentary film about the 1990s, with the working title “The Blanket of Father Mitrofan of Hilandar”, and is working on presenting handwritten Hilandar manuscripts that have been preserved in Serbian monasteries to this day. "These projects aim primarily to present the cultural and historical heritage and the importance of the Hilandar Monastery for Republika Srpska and the Serbian Orthodox people, as well as to show how Srpska can provide support to it in today's times," Romić told reporters in East Sarajevo ahead of a meeting with the abbot of the Hilandar Monastery, Archimandrite Metodije. He emphasized that the goal of the Commission is to maintain institutional ties and contacts with the Holy Imperial Lavra of Hilandar Monastery and that they will strive to preserve everything agreed upon when the Commission first began its work. Abbot Metodije expressed confidence that serious efforts will be made to preserve and present not only the spiritual, but also the cultural and historical treasures kept at Hilandar. He stated that the Hilandar Treasury is considered the only Serbian institution that has existed for 827 years. "The Hilandar Treasury and all that is preserved in the monastery primarily reflect the spiritual identity of the Orthodox Serbian people, but also point to the fact that the Serbs are among the nations that laid the foundations of Christian Europe," said Archimandrite Metodije. The abbot added that the Commission will make efforts to preserve this heritage so it may continue to testify to the truth of the Orthodox Serbian people.
