POLICE PREVENT PROTEST GATHERING OUTSIDE CANTON GOVERNMENT BUILDING

SARAJEVO, AUGUST 21 /SRNA/ - The Sarajevo Canton police prevented farmers from reaching the canton government building to express their dissatisfaction, despite the protest being officially announced.

Mesud Pinjo, Secretary General of the Poultry Farmers’ Association of the Federation of BiH, told reporters outside the Sarajevo Canton Government building that one group of farmers was stopped in Stup, and another group, with about 50 agricultural machines, was halted near Semizovac. “Not a single group made it in front of the Canton government building because they are afraid of those of us who produce food,” Pinjo emphasized. Farmers from Sarajevo Canton were scheduled to hold a symbolic protest today at 11:55 a.m. in front of the Canton government building due to months-long delays in subsidy payments. In addition to the eight-month delay in payments, farmers are demanding a simplified procedure for accessing these rights, and they are also dissatisfied with the lack of dialogue between the executive authorities and their representatives.
