MARKING THE UNITY OF SERBS DAY, CEREMONY IN GADŽIN HAN

BELGRADE, SEPTEMBER 15 /SRNA/ – Republika Srpska and Serbia are today marking the Day of the Unity of Serbs, Freedom, and the National Flag.

On this occasion, a ceremony will take place at Dragutin Matić Square in Gadžin Han, near Niš. The event is scheduled to begin at 12:00, according to an announcement from the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Policy of Serbia. The Minister of Labour, War Veterans and Disabled Persons Protection Danijel Egić will head the delegation of the Republika Srpska Government at the state ceremony dedicated to marking the Day of the Unity of Serbs, Freedom, and the National Flag in Gadžin Han. Squares, streets, institutional buildings, and major intersections throughout Republika Srpska have been decorated with the tricolor flags of Republika Srpska and Serbia, illuminated on LED displays in honour of the Day of the Unity of Serbs, Freedom, and the National Flag. The President of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik called on citizens to proudly display Serb tricolor flags on their homes to mark this occasion. The Day of the Unity of Serbs, Freedom, and the National Flag is celebrated with the goal of strengthening unity between the Serb people in Serbia and Republika Srpska, as well as reinforcing the national flag's symbolic value. The holiday was symbolically established to be celebrated on the date marking the breakthrough of the Thessaloniki Front in 1918, which was decisive for the Allied victory in World War I. It has been celebrated since 2020. On the occasion of marking the Day of the Unity of Serbs, numerous accompanying events are being organised, one of the largest being the military parade Strength of Unity on September 20 in Belgrade. It is planned that on that day, the public will be presented with new and modernised equipment the Serbian Army has acquired recently, as well as technologies developed by the local defence industry. The Speaker of the Republika Srpska National Assembly Nenad Stevandić previously announced that as part of the Day of the Unity of Serbs celebration, the autumn session of the Serbia - Republika Srpska Parliamentary Forum will be held in Banja Luka on September 17 and 18. The Day of the Unity of Serbs, Freedom, and the National Flag is also being celebrated by Serbs in the diaspora.
