EGIĆ: TODAY'S HOLIDAY OBLIGES US TO BE AWARE OF UNITY AND THE SIGNIFICANCE OF FREEDOM

GADŽIN HAN, SEPTEMBER 15 /SRNA/ – The Day of the Unity of Serbs, Freedom, and National Flag reminds, develops, inspires, and obliges the heritage to be aware of unity and the significance of freedom; forgetting is not an option as Serbs have always been on the right side of history, said Danijel Egić, the minister of labour, war veterans and disabled persons protection of Republika Srpska.

At the central celebration of the Day of the Unity of Serbs, Freedom, and National Flag in Gadžin Han, Egić emphasized that this date is written in history, marked by the magnificent victory of the glorious Serbian heroes, whose memory is revived today. "This is the point of identity that proudly unites Republika Srpska and Serbia," said Egić in his speech. When the two governments adopted the declaration that set the decision to celebrate this date, Egić reminded that the goal of this holiday was to strengthen the unity of the Serb people in Serbia and Srpska. "The Day of the Unity of Serbs is a holiday that reminds us that we are one people, and our strength lies in unity. Through the declaration, we committed to strengthening the cult of the national flag, which we must carefully protect and watch over," emphasized Egić. He pointed out that the tricolour flag carries a strong symbolism, with red representing the blood spilled for the land, blue representing freedom and the infinite striving for it, and white symbolizing peace, purity, and innocence. "These are the colours of our history, our present, and the banner of our future. Under the colours of the flag, we created the state, defended freedom, and preserved faith," stressed Egić. He pointed out that today the Serb people still preserve their roots and that by building a future in peace, dignity, and mutual respect, they send a clear message that unity is not just a word but a vow and eternal defence. He also noted that Niš was the wartime capital during the Great War and one of the first major cities to be liberated after the breakthrough of the Salonika Front. He reminded that at that time, more than half of the composition of the Serbian army consisted of volunteers. Today also commemorates one of the magnificent victories of Serbian heroes. "Today, we revive the memory of the heroes who contributed to freedom, independence, and unity," emphasized Egić.
