VIŠEGRAD SET TO BREAK 400,000 VISITOR MARK THIS YEAR
BELGRADE, FEBRUARY 19 /SRNA/ – The tourist attractions of Višegrad and its surrounding area was presented today at the International Tourism Fair in Belgrade, where it was announced that the town on the Drina River is expected to surpass the record of 400,000 visitors recorded last season.
The stand was visited by the Serbian Prime Minister Đuro Macut, along with numerous representatives of institutions and the tourism sector. Staša Košarac, Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations in the Council of Ministers, said the idea is for Višegrad, as the gateway to Republika Srpska, to welcome tourists traveling to the coast, encouraging them to visit other destinations across Republika Srpska and extend their stay. Košarac noted that a tourism development strategy for Višegrad for the period 2027–2033 is currently being drafted at his initiative and expressed expectation that it will be finalized by early May. He emphasized that experts from various fields are involved in drafting the strategy, including Emir Kusturica, Predrag Saša Danilović, Jovan Memedović, and others. Košarac highlighted that Višegrad is the best example of cooperation between tourism professionals, people from the fields of culture and science, and institutions of Republika Srpska, and announced the opening of the Summer Tourist Season in Višegrad. He also wished a successful presentation at the fair to Bijeljina, Istočno Sarajevo, Doboj, Banja Luka, Trebinje, and other cities. Director of the Višegrad Tourist Organization Jadranko Janjić said they are showcasing the richness of their tourism offer, tradition, and culture, adding that such events are important for establishing new contacts. Višegrad Mayor Mladen Đurević told media from Republika Srpska that the municipality has long been recognized in the region and worldwide for its bridge and Nobel laureate Ivo Andrić, who brought it global prominence. The International Tourism Fair, which also features the rich tourism offer of Republika Srpska, opened today in Belgrade under the slogan "One Journey, a Thousand Stories."
