DOCUMENTATION CENTRE ON SUFFERING OF SARAJEVO SERBS SHOULD BE WITHIN HISTORICAL SCIENCES INSTITUTE
ISTOČNO SARAJEVO, MARCH 18 /SRNA/ – The Minister for Scientific and Technological Development and Higher Education of Republika Srpska Draga Mastilović told SRNA that a documentation centre dealing with the suffering of Serbs in Sarajevo should be established within the Historical Sciences Institute of the University of Istočno Sarajevo, which already possesses substantial documentation and testimonies about these events.
Mastilović, who is also the director of the Institute, says that this institution approaches the issue with special attention, with a focus on the suffering of Serbs in Sarajevo, both during World War II and during the Defensive-Patriotic War. He points out there is already a large number of testimonies and historical documents that speak about these events. "This is very useful when it comes to the culture of remembrance, i.e.necessary for its development," Mastilović said. Mastilović emphasized that in the coming period, historians of the Institute - several of whom are already engaged in the history of Sarajevo and the history of Serbs in Sarajevo - will continue intensive work on collecting and publishing this material. Earlier, SNSD Leader Milorad Dodik stated that it is necessary to establish a documentation centre or museum that would deal with the suffering of Sarajevo Serbs, including the exodus from 30 years ago.
